The writing of the book 'Over Easy' includes a short history of the authors' life and his travels, with humour, facts and figures.
The opening chapter from the book. ONCE UPON A TIME - A white stratosphere was apparent, motionless but hazy, silent and sultry. Not able to digest this environment the vision cast to a lower platitude but the scene was still confusing with angelic like figures floating in the background. Another direction revealed a frigid landscape of crystal fir trees protruding from iced glazed plateaus. A desperate sense of understanding was impossible, since now another sense was returning? A strong Angelic voice with no musical accompaniment pronounced ‘Amazing Grace how sweet the sound …’ somehow registering a presence. ‘Well, whoever you are, you’re in bloody heaven!’ This voice was my own and I was awakening from a long sleep. But there had been continual nightmares in which I’d balanced precariously on high trolleybus wires at night time high above a lighted city and it repeated time and time and time again.’ Where am I, what am I and who am I?
A BIT OF A LAD
Broken biscuits, cracked eggs, scraps from the fish and chip shop and meat bits were common purchases since no families here were wealthy. Borrowing cups of sugar or dripping was common. For Joe, his sister, four brothers, mother and father life seemed tougher than most of the rest.
